When God Does A New Thing

Sometimes God’s Word meets us right in the middle of our everyday lives — in the routines, the questions, and even the quiet places where we’re not sure what’s next.

Isaiah 43:19 is one of those verses that feels like a gentle nudge to look up and notice the new thing God may already be stirring beneath the surface. This week, I sat with that verse using the H.E.A.R. method, and it offered a fresh reminder I didn’t know I needed. Let’s walk through it together.

“God is doing something new — opening paths where none existed and bringing refreshment to places that once felt dry.” Isaiah 43:19

There’s something about this verse that feels like a gentle invitation to look up, breathe deep, and pay attention to the quiet work God is doing beneath the surface.

When these words were first spoken, God’s people were worn down by disappointment and uncertainty. They were carrying the weight of what had been, unsure of what could possibly come next. Into that heaviness, God spoke a promise: I’m still creating. I’m still leading. I’m still making a way.

He didn’t deny the wilderness. He simply reminded them that He is the One who can carve a road straight through it. Even deserts — those dry, unmoving places — are not beyond His reach. He brings streams where we least expect them.

This wasn’t just a message for ancient Israel. It’s a message for every heart that has ever felt stuck, tired, or unsure of the next step.

Maybe you’re standing in your own kind of wilderness right now — a season that feels unfamiliar, uncertain, or a little lonely. Or maybe you’re in a desert of routine, where everything feels dry and predictable.

This verse nudges us to pause and consider:
Where might God be doing something new in my life
What path is He quietly clearing that I haven’t noticed yet
Am I holding so tightly to the old that I’m missing the new thing He’s growing

Isaiah 43:19 reminds us that God is already at work: “See, I am doing a new thing… I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” His new work often begins quietly — not with noise or certainty, but with a gentle stirring that invites us to pay attention.

So think of one place in your life that feels like a wilderness — a space that has felt dry, heavy, or uncertain. Name it honestly before Him. You don’t have to solve it or understand it; simply acknowledge where you are.

Then begin watching for the ways He may already be carving out a path or letting a small stream rise in that very place. It might come as clarity, renewed strength, a softened heart, or a moment of unexpected encouragement. These are often the first signs that His promise in Isaiah 43:19 is unfolding right in front of you.

As you notice His movement, hold loosely to anything that keeps you anchored in the old — the fears, the assumptions, the patterns that no longer fit the person He’s shaping you to become. Making room for the new often begins with releasing what has run its course.

So let today be the day you choose to expect God’s new thing — and walk toward it with intention. You don’t need perfect conditions or a full picture of what’s ahead. Start where you are. Trust that He is already making a way. And take the next faithful step into the new thing He is bringing to life.
